Handmade fragrances from Brooklyn, NY. www.mcmcfragrances.com

marahMarah is another cousin I’ve been blessed with getting to know since marrying José. She’s one of the sweetest ladies out there, and as a recent graduate of Columbia’s Public Health Master’s Program and a regular on local news station NY1, someone I look up to for her hard work and dedication. Having become a small business owner and designer with a foot in the beauty industry, it’s always interesting to hear about the work Marah’s doing – something so different than my own! Like her stint last summer working on a food security program to improve women’s empowerment in Batey communities in the Dominican Republic.

Name: Marah Ramirez

Occupation: Journalist

Hometown: Queens, NY

Where do you currently reside?: Queens, NY

Favorite MCMC fragrance: HUNTER – I use it year-round.

When did you first start wearing perfume? What fragrance was it?: I remember splashing on some Jean Nate as a kid. I didn’t have my own bottle of perfume until high school. My grandmother bought me Tommy Girl when I started 9th grade.

If you were a plant, what would you be?: Lavender. I appreciate its medicinal properties and lovely fragrance.

What’s in your refrigerator right now?: I have a huge container of cooked quinoa that I keep on-hand to mix with different things, depending on my mood. I also have some hemp milk, avocados, garbanzo beans, cream of coconut, mom’s leftover moro and many, many condiments.

Three words that describe you: Passionate, sweaty, curious

Helen has a studio across the hall from me at the Dobbin Mews in Greenpoint. A textile designer, I often wander into her space to witness her splashing paint onto canvases, creating amazing florals and animal prints out of thin air. Or, she’ll come over and ask Jennifer and I which color combo is best – the infinite possibilities boggles the mind. My favorite thing about Helen though, is how she pronounces “taco” with her British accent – “tacko.”

Name: Helen Dealtry

OccupationPrinted textile designer

Hometown: London, England

Where do you currently reside?: Brooklyn, NY

Favorite MCMC fragrance: AMARA

When did you first start wearing perfume? What fragrance was it?: At around age 7 I discovered my grandmothers ‘Lily of the Valley’ by Yardley, in her bathroom cabinet. I still love it, but mix it with something earthier.

If you were a plant, what would you be?: Crocus

What’s in your refrigerator right now?: Habanero peppers, Mo’s crickets and smoked trout

Three words that describe you: British, creative, nostagic

I met Jane through our mutual friend Amber a few years ago. Actually, I knew Jane’s jewelry first, as Amber was always wearing these beautiful glass rings, earrings and necklaces. Glass jewelry! Beautiful. Jane and I live and work in the same neighborhood and just the other day I ran into her as she was on her way to take her son George (the cutie above) to an art class at the YMCA.

Many of you have been asking when our samples would be back in stock. We’re happy to report they are back, and they are better than ever! We changed the applicator to 1.5 ml spray vials so you get a little more than before (formerly 1 ml) and the spray should help dispense the scent better, getting closer to what it would feel like to wear that full size eau de parfum once you’ve chosen your favorite scents. New and improved MCMC samples available here; $5 each.
